Anterior Cruciate Ligament

ACLPCL2.jpg (42003 bytes)
The antatomy of the ACL and PCL is demonstrated in this photo.

The posterior cruciate ligament has a broad fan shaped attachment on the femoral condyle. The tibial attachment site is 10mm below the joint line and slightly lateral. The PCL consist of 2 distinct bundles, the anterolateral that is tight in flexion, and the posteromedial, that is tight in flexion.

Meniscus

The medial and lateral meniscus are semi-lunar crescents on the tibial surface that contour to the shape of the femur and provide stability, shock absorption, and lubrication for the knee joint.
