Florida West Arthroscopy Association
The Florida West Arthroscopy Association is an organization of the former fellows of the Sports Medicine Clinic at Carleton University, in Ottawa Canada.
There has been an annual meeting since 1985, when Ric Ogilvie and Don Johnson decided to have an excuse to get together and talk about sports medicine. As it happened this first meeting occurred at my Florida condo on Siesta Beach in Sarasota. It also happened by coincidence that Concept Inc, located in Largo Fl, was just starting to become a force in manufacturing arthroscopy instruments. We were introduced to the company by Larry Lasswell and Don Stocks. In those early days we would drive up to Concept and spend a day discussing new products and trying new arthroscopy techniques on plastic sawbones models. I recognized that this was a potential for arthroscopic education and have continued to be associated with the company over the ensuing years.
